The restoration project at the Blair County Courthouse is on track to be completed by the end of the year. On Tuesday, the Blair County Commissioners approved funding for some of the final work that needs to be done.
That includes the complete repair and restoration of the 1875 courtroom. Workers are now re-building the area where the judge will sit and witnesses will testify. The commissioners also approved funding to repair and re-use much of the original furniture.
“It’s the best bang for the buck, quite frankly. Those furnishings have been here since 1875 and 1906. They’re still usable. They need some repair and some refinishing. Obviously, they’re old, but they’re solid wood,” said County Commissioner Terry Tomassetti
He said the furniture restoration and construction will be done by prison inmates in the Correctional Industries Program.
