A family is cleaning up after a Clearfield County community’s landmark was destroyed in a fire Tuesday night.
Fire crews were called to Holt Grocery and Da Worm Farm in Grapian around 8:20 p.m.
The Grampain Penn Bloom fire chief said the buildings are a total loss, but the family who owns the grocery store was able to salvage a few items inside.
A preliminary investigation was started by the fire marshal. A cause hasn’t been discovered yet.
The grocery store has been in Grampian since the early 1900’s. The chief said losing this building is like losing a big part of the community.
“There’s not a whole lot in Grampian, but everybody knows the grocery store,” Chief Nick Selner said. “So it’s going to affect everyone, especially, the owners, but the community as well.”
It’s estimated half a million dollars of damage was done to the businesses.
