City celebrating 25th anniversary with 25 events

The City of St. Marys is celebrating its 25th anniversary by highlighting 25 events throughout the year.

“In 1994, Benzinger Township and St. Marys Borough consolidated to create the City of St. Marys, and it’s just grown to be better every single year since,” City of St. Marys public relations officer Hannah Brock said.

The events are put on by businesses, organizations and individuals in the city.

“The majority of the events we do are not city events, they’re put on by the people who live here and want to give back to the community,” Brock said.

The first event of the year was Winterfest, hosted by the Elk County Volunteer Alliance on January 29.

Board member Ashley O’Dell said the organization was honored when the City asked them to be involved with the celebration.

“We are a volunteer organization that gives back to the community all the time, so for us to be involved in any way, and to pay tribute to that 25 year anniversary, we were very happy about that,” O’Dell said.

The city will feature other events like the Memorial Day parade, airport drag races and the opening of their downtown park.

To stay updated on what events are coming up, Brock recomends checking out and following the city’s Facebook page.

The next event is St. Marys Auto Body’s Roots and Boots concert this Saturday, March 2. That event is already sold out.
