The first of ten bridges to be remodeled in Cambria County is now complete.
Carney’s Crossing Bridge in Lilly was built in 1917 and was only one lane. It is now two lanes and maintains its weight limit. 400 cars pass over the bridge on a daily basis. The funding for the remodel comes from Act 89 that helps counties fix and maintain their bridges. The Carney’s Bridge project cost $432,000.
Cambria County Commissioner Tom Chernisky said, “It’s a safety issue number one. Ambulance, emergency vehicles can cross over. First responders, community, business, commerce. It’s the game plan we put in place and today’s the very first bridge with Act 89 dollars in Cambria County. It’s a great day for Cambria County and our region and our community.”
