Cambria County is planning to hold its 3rd Annual Hero Hike on Armed Forces Day, May 18.
The Hero Hike starts at 9 a.m. at 1097 1st Street in Nanty Glo, and ends at 424 Prave Street Ebensburg where a ceremony will be held at noon.
This yearly hike is aimed at reminding hikers of the sacrifices made by those serving in uniform.
“Donations are encouraged, but never required,” said Josh Hauser, Cambria County Director of Veteran Services. “Our goal has always been to bring people together to enjoy a day on the trail and think of those who serve us, around the world, each day.”
Anyone who is interested can attend, even if they don’t hike the 7.5 mile stretch. People can simply join the group at the end for a short ceremony.
“This is a great opportunity to honor our service men and women, and to enjoy a terrific trail right here in Cambria County,” said Chernisky.
Anyone interested in participating can call Veteran Community Initiatives, Inc. (VCI) at 814-255-0355 to sign up or make a donation. Donations are encouraged, but not required.
Those who pre-register and donate $15 by May 3 will receive a commemorative t-shirt.
“We’re proud to partner with the Cambria County Commissioners and Cambria County Veteran Services Office,” said Tom Caulfield, the Director of VCI. “Events like this enable our community participants to improve and expand the services and programs our organizations provide our veterans and family members in the most effective and caring manner.”
