Emergency crews rushed to the scene of a building collapse today in Altoona.
It happened at the site of the former Bon Secours Hospital, which is now under construction to become an apartment complex.
But we want to make it clear that the building that is being torn down, not the one under construction, is the one that collapsed, when a piece of steel hit the excavator and caught fire.
“From what we can tell, whenever the building did collapse on to the excavator, it knocked a hydraulic line loose which spread onto the hot engine which would have caught fire,” says Daniel Drumm, Assistant Chief of the Altoona Fire Department.
No injuries were reported.
