TAYLOR TOWNSHIP, CENTRE COUNTY, Pa. (WTAJ) — The Centre County Chief Deputy Coroner has released the names of the two people killed in Wednesday’s plane crash in Taylor Township, Centre County.

The pilot was Joseph T. Bernardo 55, of State College. The passenger was his wife Valerie D. Bernardo 54.

State Police in Rockview began searching for the small plane between Sandy Ridge and the Bald Eagle area around 1 p.m. Wednesday.  It took first responders an hour and a half to locate the plane’s crash site.

FAA is leading the investigation.

The plane was a 1976 Cessna 172n. It was a fixed-wing single engine plane with 4 seats owned by the Psyfliers club registered out of State College.

According to an article from our news partners at the Centre Daily Times, right before it crashed, the plane took off from the University Park Airport, headed to Burlington Vermont. However, www.flightaware.com shows the plane was headed to the Butler County Airport.
