MOUNT PLEASANT, Pa. (AP) — Authorities say an 11-year-old boy killed in a crash on the Pennsylvania Turnpike was with his father for Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day.

Hayden Field was killed when his father’s car rear-ended a tractor-trailer Thursday afternoon in Mount Pleasant.

Westmoreland County Coroner said the boy was wearing his seat belt at the time.

The fire chief tells the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette the boy’s father was ejected through the front windshield and underwent surgery. His condition is unknown.

The chief said the father is an employee of the Turnpike Commission and brought his son to work with him that day.

A person in the tractor-trailer was taken to a hospital where their condition is unknown.
