Local News

Monday Bellefonte Police Department officially charged Chuck Kormanski, the former owner of pappy Chuck’s Candy Shoppe, with embezzling over $167,000 from St. John’s Lutheran Church over the last 7 years.

Court ducments say kormanski served as the church treasurer since 1998.  Allegedly, Kormanski wrote 379 checks to himself, going back to Decemeber 2011.

William Osman, Pastor of St John Lutheran Church tells WTAJ, he and a church member discovered money missing from the church, and gave information to Bellefonte Police.  He says this is a very sad day for the church.

“We involved the Bellfonte Police Department as soon as we learned of the situation and we are working to be transparent with our congregation concerning eveything that is happening,” Pastor Osman said.

He says background checks and fingerprinting was not required for the treasurer position at the church.  When asked if it will be going forward he said the church is looking at all things right now.
