Area vets monument in line for improvements

Local News

ALTOONA, BLAIR COUNTY, Pa. — Seventy-five years ago a monument went up in a local community to honor military men and women serving in World War Two. Time has taken its toll on the monument, and on Wednesday, area veterans gathered to announce plans to restore it.

The obelisk stands in a neighborhood behind the Kranich Building at Logan Boulevard and Plank Road in Altoona. Veterans hope to do a number of improvements at the site, including adding lights and replacing the flagpole.

Two veterans groups are involved in the projecth. The Central Pennsylvania National Guard and Veterans Association, and the Blair County War Veterans Council have already repaired four other local monuments.
