A Blair County community broke ground on Thursday, for a project designed to benefit much of the surrounding area. State and local officials lifted their shovels for the first phase of the project at the Bellwood Antis Community Park–construction of full-size basketball and volleyball courts.
Right now, all you can see is an open field where the basketball court will be built, and dirt that’s been turned over in preparation for the volleyball court. They’re expected to be completed in mid-August.
Antis Township officials say they’re just part of more than a million dollars in renovations and construction at the park.
“This park actually has more visitors than actual members that attend in the summer, primarily because of our public pool, which is a great facility, so it’s going to benefit everybody in the county generally,” said David Worthy, Supervisors Chairman.
Supervisors recently bought 4,000 acres for a long-trail to run from Northern Blair County to Logan Township. They say the park will be the centerpiece of the trail, making it a gathering point for county residents.
