MCCANDLESS, Pa. (CBS) — It was just after nine when firefighters got the call, a complex engulfed in flames at Durham Court in McCandless.
“At that particular time, there was a bit of wind it accelerates off the fire in a short amount of time. There was smoke in both eves and it was fully involved on the roof,” said Chief Paul Wain, Peebles Volunteer Fire Department.
The roof had collapsed in several sections of the building. The fire marshall is trying to pinpoint the cause, but it hasn’t been determined where the blaze broke out.
The fire was definitely in the middle, definitely on the porch. Smoke was seen at the end of the building.

Several firefighters were treated for minor injuries, and one person was treated for smoke inhalation. Thankfully, no one died at the scene and it could have been a lot worse.
“Red Cross is working with the management of this complex to make sure that everyone has shelter,” Wain said.
