Altoona firefighters are doing their part to help keep local kids warm this winter.
Friday, firefighters were at Penn Lincoln Elementary passing out coats to children as part of Operation Warm.
This is the second year Altoona Fire Department raised money for the initiative.
Last year they were able to buy 120 coats, this year more than 400 were purchased.
“To see these kids with the coats and staying warm on their way to school puts a smile on our faces and we’ll be here next year and the year after,” said Patrick Miller, president of AIFF local 299
Altoona firefighters put on two boot drives this year and raised more than 9 thousand dollars for Operation Warm.
