State College, Pa- Fans took to local bars to watch the big game with friends, family, and colleagues.
WTAJ was downtown to see how fans were taking-in the game.
Some bars were split 50/50 between Patriots and Rams fans… others had a clear majority of fans supporting one team.
At Champs, in downtown State College, Patriots fans outnumbered Rams fans. Most Pats fans were students who call New England home.
“It’s nice to see people who are rooting for the same team, when you’re far away from home,” said Patriots fan and PSU Student Melanie Richard.
Some Pats fans did say that watching the game in State College was a little different than watching it back home.
“It’s a little tough being a Patriots fan. There are a lot of boo’s when we make a good play…. but it’s still always a lot of fun,” said PSU Student Morgan Healy.
The boo’s came from those looking for a change of pace, regarding NFL champions.
“I’d like a new up and coming victor in the SuperBowl. We’re always used to the Patriots winning, I’d like to see something different,” said Joshua Peake from State College.
At Bill Pickle’s Tap Room, out-of-towners say the environment was one of the best they’ve seen for the big game.
“I think it’s awesome! It’s a young lively group… it’s a lot of fun,” said Anthony Dragovich from Roanoke, Virginia.
And while some fans dissagreed on whom to cheer for, there was one thing they could all agree on this Championship Sunday.
It was summed up by Richard: “You can be unhealthy. Calories don’t count during the SuperBowl.”
In an unofficial poll WTAJ took from fans at downtown bars, they discovered that fans felt the best food to eat during the big game was chicken wings. Nachos came in second place.
