A local author looks to help humane societies

BLAIR COUNTY, Pa. (WTAJ) — A local author is using her experiences with her dog to teach children the importance of self-discovery and finding your way back home.

The book is called “Oakley’s Great Cape Escape.”

Oakley was a 2-year-old golden retriever who wasn’t socialized with people when he was a puppy. He ran away during a family trip to Cape May but found his way back to their hotel.

The author of the book, Amy Hanna-Eckenrode, says she hopes children will realize they’re just like Oakley.

It kinda helps children learn and know that yeah, when you’re going through difficult time, you have to find yourself, but you also have to remember that your family, where your family is and where te love comes from and where your support base is, and that’s what Oakley had to learn to do too.

A portion of the proceeds from the book’s sales will go towards local rescue shelters and humane societies.
