Local News

Steve Bair., Fire Director for the Centre Region Council of Governments says investigation shows lightning caused the Sunday afternoon fire at Tremont Student Living in State College.

Bair says, just after 5p.m. Sunday fire crews responded to multiple calls of smoke coming from the student housing center
He says the sprinkler system in the building did not go off, because there were no sprinklers in the attic where the fire began.

“This fire was above all the fire protection features, it’s all in the attic space, Bair said.

Bair says there were a total of 60 fire fighters and EMS crew members from Alpha fire, Bellefonte Undine Fire Company, Pleasant Gap Fire Company, Philipsburg Fire Company, Miles Township Fire Company, and Fame Emergency Medical Services from Lewiston.
One Alpha Company fire fighter suffered from dehydration and smoke stress, and was taken to the Mount Nittany Medical Center. He went back to work Monday.
