J.C. Blair Memorial Hospital in Huntingdon has eliminated 11 positions, 6 non-union and 5 union jobs.
Spokeswoman Chris Gildea says the hospital will consolidate some inpatient services and increase its focus on outpatient care.
She says the affiliation with Pinnacle Health will allow J.C. Blair to assure that patients receive specialty care, even if it is given elsewhere.
Gildea says the hospital will continue to expand its emergency department and has added physicians to its affiliated practices.
According to Gildea, the lack of state money, the reduction in reimbursements due to the Affordable Care Act, and Medicare have pushed the hospital to restructure based on the need to do more outpatient business.
She says there was a need to right-size the organization to fit the change in reimbursements and funding. But she adds, “it’s just very hard when an organization like our in a small community like ours has to see positions leave and see those individuals leave the organization.”
