Fire heavily damages 30 units of apartment building

ALLISON PARK, Pa. (AP) — Fire tore through an apartment complex near Pittsburgh, but no serious injuries were immediately reported.

Authorities in Allegheny County said the blaze at Durham Court in McCandless was reported at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday.

Fire Marshal Dan Stack said about 30 units sustained heavy fire, smoke and water damage and are uninhabitable.  Residents are to receive assistance from the Red Cross and Salvation Army.

Stack said many residents weren’t home because they were working. He says firefighters are trying to locate pets from various units.

Officials said one person was taken to a hospital for observation, and a firefighter reported a hand injury.

The fire marshal said the building had working fire alarms, but no sprinklers.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
