Billing discrepancies are causing a problem for one area county, which is in the hole tens of thousands of dollars.
Centre County officials said the issues date back about six years and deal with the county’s 9-1-1 emergency services.
According to the county solicitor, the 911 center Verizon bills show they’re about $30,000 in debt for landline services; however, the solicitor thinks the county should only have to pay a portion of that and said most of the problems stem from late fees.
“Payments were not made when they should have been made, but it’s also because their billing statements were not correct,” Elizabeth Dupuis, Centre County Solicitor, said. “Some months there was no money owed and that next month, there’s a lot of money owed.”
The county said they’ve tried numerous avenues to settle the discrepancies, but they’re not getting anywhere. Meanwhile, the late fees continue to accrue.
