Attorney General Kathleen G. Kane’s office today announced criminal charges have been filed against 32 individuals accused of distributing or possessing illegal drugs in Blair County.

The charges are the culmination of a yearlong cooperative investigation between the Office of Attorney General, the Blair County Drug Task Force and the Altoona Police Department. The investigation primarily focused on the distribution of heroin and prescription narcotics in Blair County. Cocaine, crack, ecstasy, bath salts and marijuana were also involved in this investigation.

Agents from the Attorney General’s Bureau of Narcotics Investigation partnered with investigators from the Blair County Drug Task Force, the Blair County District Attorney’s Office and the Altoona Police Department on the joint investigation. Law enforcement officials used various tools, including surveillance techniques and undercover purchases, as they worked to file charges.

Over the course of the investigation, investigators made a series of controlled purchases utilizing confidential informants and undercover officers/agents. Controlled purchases were made in Altoona and the surrounding municipalities. The investigation is ongoing and more arrests are expected.

Attorney General Kane thanked the following agencies for their participation in the investigation: the Altoona Police Department, the Blair County Sheriff’s Department, the office of Blair County District Attorney Richard Consiglio, Pennsylvania State Probation and Parole, the Blair County Drug Task Force and Pennsylvania State Police.

Additionally, Attorney General Kane also thanked Operation Our Town for its support. Operation Our Town is an organization in Blair County with a mission of supporting the fight against drugs and violent crime. Individuals with drug information may contact the Operation Our Town “Push Out the Pusher” hotline at 814-693-3020.
