Volunteers clean up area waterways

STATE COLLEGE, CENTRE COUNTY, Pa. (WTAJ) — Some local volunteers celebrated Earthday Weekend with a major cleanup effort. They picked up trash and litter in Centre County as part of the 23rd Annual Watershed Cleanup Day.

The Clearwater Conservancy says last year, volunteers helped to remove about 35,000 pounds of trash from Centre County.

The organization adds that 1997, volunteers have removed more than six million pounds of waste from local streams, roadways, sinkholes, and illegal dumpsites.
