SC Borough could resurface roads surrounding expanded Atherton St. construction

Local News

State College, Pa- Construction on Atherton Street will resume next week and continue throughout the spring season. Starting March, 11, the right lane headed toward downtown will be closed during the day as crews replace a sewer line from Big Hollow Run to Park Avenue.

Future construction will extend past Atherton’s intersection with Park Avenue, to the intersection at Easterly and Westerly Parkway.

With that expanded construction, State College Borough is looking to resurface roads that may be popular as detours from the anticipated construction occuring on Atherton Street.

The three main roads that may be resurfaced are Waupelani Drive, Blue Course Drive, and Westerly Parkway.

“Those are the ones that we’re looking at. They also are ones that connect people to many of the more common destinations that are in very close proximity to Atherton street, but not one Atherton street,” said Deborah Hoag, Director of Public Works for State College Borough.

The borough is still planning the resurfacing projects. There’s currently no timeline for project completion.
