Despite all the rain we’ve had, construction is underway for a new Centre Hall park.
Keri Miller, Tri-Municipal Park Board Member says there’s not a lot of places for her, her seven year-old daughter Heidi and five year-old daughter Ilsa to ride bikes or walk in the Centre Hall area.
It’s because of that and the need for a soccer field Gregg Township, Centre Hall Borough and Potter Township bought 165 acres from Penn State.
“There is a very active soccer program here in the Penn’s Valley Region and there’s a lack of fields in order to support all of those teams,” Miller said.
In 2007, the three municipalities started applying for grants for phase one…They got $600,00 which helped buy the first 20-acres.
“DNCR grants and a PENNVEST loan and grant, and that’s what covers the amount for this particular section of the park,” Miller said.
It’s not just new places to play, Keri says this park will bring an economy boost.
“People and businesses are interested in the advertisement that it can provide for them if they have naming rights, for different sections of the park,” Miller said.
The Tri-Municipal Park board hopes the walking path will be ready Spring 2019 and the athletic fields Fall 2019.
Miller says the municipalities are looking for financial help, planning help and resources for the building of volleyball courts and orchards. If you would like to help you can contact the Centre Hall Borough.
