Bellefonte, Centre County, Pa- The Centre County Commissioners have proclaimed February, 2019 as Career and Technical Education Month.
Students and staff from both the South Hills School of Business & Technology, and the Central PA Institute of Science and Technology were present at Tuesday’s Commissioners meeting to receive the proclamation.
Each student also gave their current area of study, along with their future career plans.
The Commissioners emphasized the importance of a new wave of skilled students entering the workforce.
“Our generation is aging out. So as our generation ages out, we need those plumbers, those electricians, those HVAC guys, all the folks that make the world run, and you’re the folks the make it happen,” said Centre County Commissioner, Steven Dershem as he addressed the students.
Commissioner Mark Higgins also mentioned that students in some of the county’s technology programs are receiving job offers, and being hired before they complete the first year of a two-year program.
