Better late than never, or at least that’s how the saying goes.
One New Jersey man put that saying to the test when he returned a library book 53 years late.
The year was 1966, Lyndon Johnson was president, Vietnam War protests were breaking out.
It’s also the year a 13-year old kid check out “the family Book of Verse” by Lewis Gannet.
The man says he found the book while cleaning out his basement and he felt guilty.
Now that late fee? Well at 10 cents a day, that man would ow about $2,000. The library says they’re not making him pay.
