Let the good times roll! It’s Fat Tuesday!

It’s the last day to celebrate carnival and the Mardi Gras spirit. 

Also known as “Shrove Tuesday,” Fat Tuesday is one final day to party before the seriousness and repentance of Ash Wednesday. 

A version of Mardi Gras has been practives around the world for centuries. 

People wanted to cook meat and other foods they would be giving up for lent. 

In the United States, New Orleans is the place to be on Fat Tuesday, even though Mobile, Alabama was actually home to the first Mardi Gras celebration to take place on American soil, in 1703.

Fat Tuesday has been an official holiday in Louisiana since the 1800s. Alabama hosts the second largest celebration.
