A new study suggest dogs aren’t as smart as we have been led to believe.
This news comes from a new study in the journal Learning and Behavior.
It compares canine cognition to other carnivores, social hunters, and domestic animals, all groups dogs fall into.
Researchers used existing behavior information of wolves, cats, dolphins, chimps and other animals to see if dogs possessed any special skills not recorded in other species.
The conclusion, they didn’t.
Dogs are however, slightly above average, when it comes to social cognition, especially when taking cues from humans.
Maybe dogs are just good at being motivated by treats and belly rubs. Whatever the case, they’re still man’s best friend.
