Hyndman Borough, Bedford County and College and Harris Townships in Centre County declared snow emergencies Thursday morning.
The Pennsylvania Turnpike was closed Thursday morning between the Breezewood and Carlisle Interchanges for a multi-vehicle accident. Speed limits on many major roads in Pennsylvania are at 45 mph to allow plow trucks to plow and treat roadways.
Drivers are reminded that even those with four-wheel drive need to take their time on the roads.
“People even in four wheel drives need to make sure that they take all the safety precautions and drive slowly in this kind of weather,” said Dave Cubbison with Bedford County Emergency Management. “This is a light snow, it's not a heavy wet snow but there's a lot of it, and so it's easy to slide on the roadways in this light, fluffy snow.”
The snow will continue through much of Thursday and could impact the evening commute. Early dismissals and road conditions are available at the links above.
