Evening Weather Forecast Monday, January 12th, 2018

Roads will be tricky Saturday morning.

Additional rain can bring some more flooding and a flood watch remains in effect for Centre, Clearfield, Jefferson, Indiana, Cameron and Elk counties until 1pm Saturday. As temperatures fall, rain may freeze on some surfaces later this evening, especially the farther north and west you are. As the cold air deepens the rain will change to snow later tonight. Accumulations will range from 6" in the far northwestern part of our region on some of the higher elevations in Jefferson and Elk Counties to very little snow well east of I-99. Because of the snow and ice, there is a winter storm warning for Jefferson, Elk and Cameron counties northwestward until 10am. There is a winter weather advisory in effect for the rest of the region until 10am. Do watch as temperatures will fall fast early tonight and wet roads will freeze to ice. Remember a wet road and an icy road look the same.

It will be windy and much colder this weekend. Leftover snow and snow showers will wrap up quickly early Saturday then the rest of the day will be cloudy to partly sunny, windy and cold. Highs will be in the 20s but some of the higher ridges may drop into the teens during the afternoon. The wind is going to make it feel colder than that.

Lows Saturday night will be in the single digits to the teens with wind chills lower than that. A bubble of high pressure will give us some sunshine on Sunday but it will still be cold with highs in the teens to near 20. Clouds will increase on Monday with highs in the 20s. A weak disturbance will bring some light snow Monday night into Tuesday. Behind that system it will still be chilly with a gusty wind on Wednesday. Highs will be in in the 20s to lower 30s with snow showers on Wednesday. We will have to watch as a disturbance with steadier snow will not be too far to our east Wednesday. Thursday will be windy and cold with clouds and sunshine along with flurries and snow showers and highs only in the 20s. A warm up will kick in after that. Temperatures will rebound to near 40 with sunshine and on Friday and we’ll get into the 40s to near 50 for the following weekend.
