Evening Forecast, Monday June 7, 2014
By Joe Murgo
Warmer and more humid air returned with a gusty breeze today ahead of an approaching cold front. This front did help to spark of a shower or thunderstorm in spots this afternoon and there will still be a scattered of showers and thunderstorms early tonight. There is a chance for any of the thunderstorms to bring a strong wind gust. Because of that, the National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm watch for Elk, Cameron, Jefferson, Clearfield, Centre, Clinton, Indiana and Cambria counties until 10pm this evening. As this front pushes to the east, any of the shower or thunderstorm activity will diminish later tonight. It will remain partly to mostly cloudy and a bit muggy with low temperatures in the 60s. There are yet two more fronts coming our way by the middle of the week. A second front will approach on Tuesday. Ahead of the front, it will be warm and humid with times of clouds and sunshine. Once again there will be scattered showers and thunderstorms, especially during the midday and afternoon hours, and any of those thunderstorms could be strong to severe. Temperatures on Tuesday will reach into the lower to middle 80s. Behind that front Wednesday will feature a mix of clouds and sunshine. With a third front pushing into and through the area, a stray shower or thunderstorm can not be ruled out Wednesday but the activity looks like it will be more isolated. Temperatures Wednesday will still reach into the lower to middle 80s, but the humidity will not be quite as high. Behind that last front, a much more comfortable and only marginally cooler air mass will move in for the end of the week. Thursday and Friday will each feature at least a partly sunny sky with high temperatures in the lower to middle 80s, but with less humid air, it will feel comfortable at night. The humidity will creep up a bit over the weekend with a mix of clouds and sunshine and only a slight chance for a pop up shower or thunderstorm each afternoon. Temperatures will reach into the lower to middle 80s on Saturday and then into the middle to perhaps upper 80s Sunday. There will be a better chance for a shower or thunderstorm in places on Monday; otherwise, the day will be warm and humid with a mix of clouds and sunshine.
