This controversial campaign shows overweight kids in web clips and on billboards. The folks who are behind the ads in Georgia say that kids respect honesty and want to hear real stories from their peers. Critics say they are "fat-shaming" kids and their parents. CBS Health News contributor Dr. Holly Phillips weighed in on the issue.
Dr. Holly Phillips, CBS News Contributor says,
"This is extremely controversial. Part of the cons of this advertising campaign is that you never want to do anything to undermine children's self-esteem. That will make them less confident and less successful at everything that they attempt and that includes losing weight. But on the other hand, we're talking aobut childhood obesity and communication is really where we are lacking in this fight so it's definitely caught our attention which is a pro but you don't want children further stigmatized or brought down by the ads."
