YMCA Rings in the New Year With Big Plans

A local YMCA will undergo a $1.6 Million Upgrade
RIDGWAY, ELK COUNTY - The Ridgway YMCA has been part of the community since 1902.

Thousands of people, including executive director, Mary Lynn Bellotti, have learned to swim here.

"I think when you were born and raised here and the Y has been part of your life from the time you were little and you learned to swim here and your children learned to swim here and you're hoping your grandchildren will get the chance to learn to swim here; it puts you like in this place of peace that you've provided something for the community that will last a lifetime" said Bellotti.

She and the Y just found out they will receive $800,000 from the state as part of the Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program. They are required to match the grant and are over 75% of the way toward their goal.

The $1.6 million will go toward upgrading the pool and fitness center. They hope to begin the process in the Summer of 2014.

"It’s huge. I mean we are a very small community and we are well- nit together so this project is just something we have been working on forever and I think that it's going to mean a lot not just to our ymca, but to the community and the communities that are surrounding us as well" she said.
