Volunteer Working to Clean National Mall

The man feels obligated to help prepare for the upcoming Million Vet March while Park Service employees are furloughed.
WASHINGTON, D.C. – A South Carolina resident has been on a one-man mission to clean up the National Mall while Park Service employees are idle during the government shutdown.

Chris Cox told CBS DC he feels obligated to help as veterans prepare to descend on Washington for this weekend’s Million Vet March.

Cox doesn’t use a ride-on mower, but a simple gasoline mower found in millions of garages and sheds across the country.

Park Police do not condone Cox’s work for liability reasons, and authorities have asked him to stop his work. Cox agreed and has stopped work for the time being.
