UPMC Altoona Nurses Taking Strike Vote

Contract talks break down for almost 800 RNs.

ALTOONA, BLAIR COUNTY - Almost 800 area nurses move closer to striking. Contract talks between registered  nurses and UPMC ended Friday night with no  agreement.

A spokeswoman for SEIU Healthcare tells WTAJ,  the nurses are meeting today to vote  on sending a strike notice to management. The union proposes holding  a one-day strike on February 11.

A spokeswoman for SEIU says the nurses wanted to keep talking, but UPMC representatives said they'd  given their last best offer. Wages, benefits, and staffing are the main issues.
