United Way Launches New Annual Campaign

The United Way of Blair County kicks off its 2012-2013 Annual Campaign on Wednesday.
ALLEGHENY TOWNSHIP, BLAIR COUNTY - The United Way of Blair County kicks off its 2012-2013 Annual Campaign today.

The community-based organization said it was able to help nearly 40,000 people thanks to contributions to the 2011-2012 campaign.
 
The United Way funds 25 programs in Blair County. It also provides services through events such as Toasty Toddlers (winter coats to infants and preschoolers), Stuff the Bus (school supplies and backpacks to children pre-K through twelfth grade), Volunteer Income Tax Assistance, Prom Gown distribution, Urban Garden (produce and education about gardening), Canstruction (food collection for local food banks), and Familywize Prescription Discount Cards.

In addition, more than 650 volunteers provided 29,250 hours of service to the community.

The United Way estimated its impact through its 2011-2012 campaign totaled more than $1.75 million.

This year's goal is to put more needed dollars back into the community through grants and provide more programs and services to more people.
