United Way Funding

Over $265,000 was awarded Tuesday to 20 non-profits as part of the Blair County United Way 's impact funding program.
These dollars include helping Big Brothers/Big Sisters, assisting the Altoona Food Bank , helping domestic abuse victims through Family Services and Mid Penn Legal Services,  and helping provide Meals on Wheels for area seniors.  Kids at the Gloria Gates Memorial Foundation Centers and the working poor in need of low cost health care are also among those who will be impacted.

As Dr. Zanes Gates, Founder of Partnering for Health Services Risk Reduction Program says, "We'll be able to focus on prevention and finding very cost effective way to help folks, the "working poor,  or as I call the "working hard" and get the nutritional and counseling support that they need so they can lead healthy lives."

Tuesday's impact funding grant awards represents 70% of the $500,000 raised in last year's Blair County United Way campaign.
