State Health Center Closings Halted

Temporary injunction issued.
HARRISBURG -  The State Supreme Court has temporarily halted plans to close state health centers across Pennsylvania, including some in our area. That's according to the State Employees International Union(SEIU), which represents nurses at the center.

The injunction, issued Wednesday by the court,  blocks the state from acting, pending a full hearing by the Supreme Court.  Justices would be hearing an appeal of a Pennsylvania Commonwealth Court's decision in April to deny the injunction request.

SEIU says the state has already shuttered some state health centers and eliminated 18 community health nurse positions.

The Corbett Administration wants to consolidate the centers, saying many of their functions have been taken over by the private sector.
