Speed Display Sign Installed

The goal of the sign is to curb a common type of aggressive driving.
RIDGWAY TOWNSHIP, ELK COUNTY – PennDOT has installed a radar-controlled speed sign along a local route to hopefully curb aggressive driving.

The sign faces southbound traffic along Route 219 and uses radar to determine the speed of oncoming traffic. Speeds are then posted on a lighted section of the sign. The speed limit along the section of Route 219 is 55 mph.

The speed display sign will be in place for three weeks and was installed at the request of a legislator.

Aggressive driving behaviors were listed as a crash cause in more than half of Elk County crashes in 2012.
