Shopping For Firefighters

Local departments looking for volunteers.
ALTOONA - While last minute shoppers searched for deals, one local group spent the day at the mall looking for help.

The Allegheny Mountain Firefighters Initiative has been searching for new volunteer firefights since receiving a grant last spring. Over the last 40 years the number of volunteer firefighters has dropped from more than 300,000 to 76,000. The federal grant has allowed local departments to recruit more firefighters that they say are desperately needed.

"There's a lot of goof things that come out of volunteering. A lot of them are like a family giving back to the community and they just enjoy being firefighters," John Kane from the Allegheny Mountain Firefighters Initiative says.
