Rep. Mike Fleck Gets Primary Challenger

For the first time since he initially ran for office in 2006, Rep. Mike Fleck gets a challenger.
HUNTINGDON - For the first time since he initially ran for office in 2006, Rep. Mike Fleck (R) of the 81st District will have a primary challenger.

Huntingdon County Treasurer Richard Irvin (R) announced his intentions to run against Fleck on the steps of the Huntingdon County Courthouse Thursday.

The race is making national headlines because the incumbent, Fleck, recently announced he is gay, making him one of the only gay Republican legislators in Pennsylvania.

Irvin says that isn't why he's decided to run now.

"That always can be a concern," Irvin said. "Anybody that knows me and knows my job record in Huntingdon County knows I'm moving forward with the people's needs at heart."

Irvin has been Treasurer for 17 years.

The primary takes place on May 20th.
