PENN STATE, UNIVERSITY PARK - Penn State's new controversial health plan initiative is gaining more participants.

As of August 12, a little more than 6,500 employees have scheduled their Biometric Screenings as part of the university's new "Take Care of Your Health" initiative.

Employees have until October 8 to complete all the stops to enroll in the program, or they will face a $100/month surcharge starting in January.

The announcement of the new program has been widely criticized and has even sparked online petitions by university employees.
