PSU Welcomes New Class

It's the first day back for Penn State students.
PENN STATE, UNIVERSITY PARK - It's the first day back for Penn State students Monday.

The university's main campus is swarming with students.

This year, Penn State has more than 15,000 first-year students for the fall on all 20 undergraduate campuses.

University Park is planning for close to 8,000 new students.

University officials say this year's incoming class has 20 valedictorians, 22 presidents of their senior class and dozens of other class officers.

There are also several world-class athletes, including an international curling competitor, young champion in horseback riding, taekwondo federation black belt, junior Olympian in gymnastics, All-American swimmer, a student who climbed Mt. Kilimanjaro and in inductee in the PA Sports Hall of Fame for soccer.
