PSU, Paterno Family Discuss JoePa Statue Mementos

Hundreds of gifts surround the statue, making it difficult to be able to touch it.
UNIVERSITY PARK, CENTRE COUNTY - There's a massive amount of gifts now in front of the Joe Paterno statue outside Beaver Stadium.

Could some of the mementos become part of history?

Penn State right now is talking with the Paterno family about what the family will keep outside the statue.

Penn State's Department of Public Information says there's talk on campus of some of the gifts possibly being archived. One spokesperson says nothing has been confirmed at this time.

However, the mementos that can be salvaged have a better chance of possibly being kept. Some of the gifts have been destroyed by rain and wind.

What is known is how impressive the scene is at the statue. People from around Central PA and out-of-state continue to stop by to take pictures and pose with Paterno and loved ones.

"Joe belongs to the ages now, and what he did and what he did for this university what he did for this area Happy Valley, the story is complete, but it's one that belongs to everybody now, his ledge will grow," said Jim Hoover, a Blair County native, who lives in Delaware and traveled to State College to pay respects to Paterno.

Hundreds of gifts surround the statue, making it difficult to be able to touch it. Some of the gifts include candles, flowers and flags.
