People across our region are trying to clear snow before it gets packed down. Steve Albright and his two kids were out plowing all day.

On the sidewalks the extra cold dry snow was making things easier for Shawn Smusziak. He was using a backpack blower to blow the snow off the sidewalks.

For a prolonged cold you might need to change the salt you use. Normal rock salt works down to about 5 degrees. More expensive mixtures like magnesium and chloride and calcium chloride work down to 15 and 25 degrees, but cost more.

You can also keep a thermometer near your pipes to make sure they don’t freeze. That way you know if you need to set up a heater.
