Pennsylvania Army Ranger Killed in Afghanistan

The soldier was one of four confirmed deaths from combat October 6th.
WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Department of Defense has released the names of four soldiers killed in Afghanistan October 6th, including an Army Ranger from Carlisle.

Twenty-five year-old Army Sgt. Patrick C. Hawkins of Carlisle, Cumberland County was killed in the Zhari District when enemy forces attacked his unit with an improvised explosive device.

Hawkins was assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment at Fort Benning, GA.

Also killed were:
  • 1st Lt. Jennifer Moreno, 25, of San Diego, California; assigned to Joint Base Lewis-McChord, WA
  • Sgt. Joseph Peters, 24, of Springfield, Missouri; assigned to 5th Military Police Battalion, Vicenza, Italy
  • Pfc. Cody Patterson, 24, of Philomath, Oregon; assigned to 3rd Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment at Fort Benning, GA
