Pantall Sheriff Sale Re-scheduled

Pantall Sheriff Sale Re-scheduled

A historic hotel will now be up for sheriff sale on November 15.
PUNXSUTAWNEY, JEFFERSON COUNTY - The Pantall Hotel is closed and two businesses located inside of it were forced to close.

Allstate Insurance had to move down the street and Laurel Eye clinic was also located within the Pantall. They have not been able to find a new space in Punxsutawney.

"Laurel eye clinic has really affected the town because a lot of elderly people would come to the shop and it was convenient for them" said Joanne Young

Joanne Young's family owns Roseman's Florist just down the street from the Pantall. She says the day to day impact of the closure has been the fact Laurel Eye had to move out of downtown, but on Ground Hog Day the hotel closure will have a huge impact.

"This ground hog's day will be devastated. That's big drawing part. The Pantall hotel has always been a big part of the groundhog" said Young.

The Pantall is 4 stories high, it has 62 rooms, 4 conference rooms and a bar/restaurant. Many events were held here February 2 and it sold out every year.

It has been closed since February and was set to re-open in April, but the owner is having financial problems and the hotel is up for sheriff sale.

"There are a couple bed and breakfasts in town, but as far as that goes that is basically it. There's really no place in town and if you have to work in the area you have to go out of town to stay" said Young.

For business sake and Ground Hog Day celebrations everyone hopes it sells and is able to be saved.

The sheriff sale will now be November 15. WTAJ News will keep you updated on if it happens and if it sells.
