The cold will ease a little through the weekend.
Updated: Friday Night, January 3rd, 2014
Reported by: Chief Meteorologist Joe Murgo

Saturday will feature a sunny to partly cloudy sky with afternoon temperatures rebounding well into the 20s to near 30. Temperatures will not drop much Saturday night and then clouds will thicken up on Sunday ahead of the next front. This front will bring a mix of rain and snow later Sunday that will change to all snow showers and perhaps a heavier squall Sunday night. The coldest air mass in years will start to slide into the region Monday. While early morning temperatures may be in the 20s, the mercury will likely drop into the single digits before evening and then below zero Monday night. Temperatures will struggle to reach above zero in places Tuesday despite some sunshine. Wind chills Monday through Tuesday night will be dangerously low. The bitterness will ease later next week.
