WASHINGTON, D.C. - If you want to sign up for insurance under the new Affordable Care Act, you may have to wait awhile.
Today is the first day roughly 48 million Americans can enroll in the plan, commonly called "Obamacare."
A lot of people must be doing it, because the website is currently experiencing delays. Check it out: www.healthcare.gov
However, there is still plenty of time to register. Open enrollment doesn't end until Mar. 31, 2014.
It won't be a problem for anyone who gets coverage from their employer, buys their own, or is on Medicare.
But for those who make at least $11,500 and don't have health insurance, they'll have to get it or pay a penalty. The fine starts at $95 next year for an adult and $47.50 for an uninsured child.
Since Pennsylvania hasn't created a health insurance exchange, residents will have to sign up under the federal exchange.
