Multiple Million Dollar Renovation

A baseball field is getting a $2 million make-over.
DUBOIS, CLEARFIELD COUNTY - For the love of the game major renovations are going on at Showers Field in DuBois.

The field has been a part of the community since 1949. In recent years, it began falling apart.

With city money, school district funds and state grants the field and the park next to it are being renovated.

The total renovation will cost about $2 million. City Manager Herm Suplizio says he expects the upgrades to benefit the entire community.

"I think we have to look past that and look outside the box to think what it will bring to our community" he said.

From March through June the high school baseball team will use the field. Then, in the summer it will be used by legion teams, men's leagues and hopefully, for tournaments.

When people are here to play Suplizio says they will stay at the local hotel, shop at the mall and eat at the restaurants.

The upgrade includes a new parking lot next to the trails, public restrooms, a completely new all turf infield, new outfield, a home run wall, back stop and indoor batting cage.

The work should be done by the end of October and the first game will be played in March.
