Man Dies in Bedford County Fire

Body recovered after cabin fire..
BEDFORD TOWNSHIP, BEDFORD COUNTY - An early morning house fire claimed the life of a Beford County man. The Bedford Township blaze was reported just after four in the morning.
There has been no positively identification released for the man who died in the early morning fire.
But we do know the male victim who's body was recovered from the burned out home,  died as the result of smoke inhalation.  It appears he was home alone when this fire was reported early today.
Fire fighters from six departments responded to the early morning blaze on the property of Miller's Quality Recycling.  Members of the family that owns the business and surrounding property said their concern grew quickly as reports of the fire spread.
"Got a call about four thirty this morning that the house was on fire.   And they couldn't find the occupant.   My husband came out right away.  He was actually here before the fire company arrived."
Because of frigid temperatures, blowing snow, and the fire's remote location off of Warmuth Lane,   fire fighters had a difficult time even getting their trucks to the scene.

"Fire fighting efforts were hampered a little bit by the snow conditions, the ice.   We had some trucks sliding off the road.  We had to get assistance from townships and Penn DOT."

The man who lived alone in the 200 year old log home was described as a long time employee of the recycling yard and was considered to be almost like a family member by those in charge of the business.   While the loss of the historic homestead will be hard to take for the owners,, it  is  the death  of the their friend and co-worker that hit hard..

"Absolutely,    yeah, it’s not so much, I mean we can handle   the devastation of the house, but to lose a family member first off and an employee is devastating."

State police were called into handle the investigation into the fatal fire.  Troopers spend much of the day sifting though what remained of the burned out log home. Trying to determine what may have started the blaze.   Fire fighters and investigators were still on the scene early Monday afternoon.  The cause of the deadly and destructive fire remains under investigation.  Late this afternoon, authorities said the name of the man who died will be released at a later date.
